Empowering Lives

Our founder, Ambadas Chavan, wanted to make a difference in the lives of migrant-tribal communities. Currently, we are working with the families of these communities: construction workers, kiln workers, sugarcane cutters, labourers, those who sell articles and beg at traffic stops, and who live under bridges and on pavements in metro cities. Our area of work is focused in the districts of Ahmednagar, Pune, and Thane.

We Care About

Children in Need

The children in our focus families are the most vulnerable to the challenges faced by their community. They are often abandoned or orphaned – their parents have either absconded, are engaged in illegal professions, are imprisoned, or even killed in certain cases of internal rivalries. Thus, they are exposed to and become a part of harmful practices like child marriage, child labour, and begging and sometimes of anti social activities.

Women in Need

The women in our focus families are often victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, repressed under rituals and responsibilities of their family. They have nowhere or no one to turn to for support, shelter, or family counselling. They stay in their situations to take care of their young children and elderly parents, while being unable to fend for themselves physically, emotionally, and financially.

Seniors in Need

It is unfortunately common to find that the elderly or senior members of our society have been abandoned, isolated, or turned out onto the streets by their adult children, who cannot afford to feed multiple mouths. Most seniors that we care for suffer from an ailment, and have no financial backing and no one to turn to.
To combat ancient practices and the spread of misinformation from quack doctors and babas that result in poor health, our community-wide project Arogyavardhini focuses on awareness and simplified education about health and hygiene, organises monthly health check-ups by expert doctors, and distributes free medicines to all those in need. These health check-up camps are conducted once in a month at eight of our operating sites where the communities reside.
